Interview with Astrid Field
We’re Joined again by Astrid Field of Sweet Rebellion, and this time we wanted to get some more insight into what goes into this awesome blog. These are some highlights:
Astrid, thank you for allowing us to do this Feature on you. With out further ado, the Questions:
How would you describe your relationship with food?
Food is my life! If I’m not baking, eating food or watching cooking shows, I’m planning my next recipe!
Tell us about what inspired you to start Sweet Rebellion, and is this your first time as blogger?
I’ve always had a certain curiosity about food, and studied a degree in Food Science.
Due to health reasons, I decided to leave my position at a flavour company and take some time out. I really missed the creative aspect of developing products though, and this combined with my love of desserts and all things sweet led me to direct that energy into creating new desserts and baked goods.
My husband, who is a photographer, suggested I start a blog and offered to do all of the photography. And so The Sweet Rebellion was born!
I do think it’s a fantastic time to be a blogger, with all that social media and modern technology have to offer these days. People find a lot of cooking and baking inspiration online. Blogging is extremely competitive though – there are so many excellent blogs out there which means one has to work that much harder to stand out.
If you were to sum up Sweet Rebellion in a sentence, what would it be?
Food made with love should be eaten without guilt!
How much time in a week do you dedicate to this?
I post at least one new recipe per week. This involves recipe research, developing and testing the recipe, styling and shooting the final product, editing the images, and writing the blog post. Depending on how complex the recipe is this can take anywhere from 1-3 days per recipe.
Much of my time is actually spent managing social media as this needs to be done daily across several platforms, about 1-2 hours per day.
There is always plenty of admin to do as well. To stay at the top of my game I also regularly attend courses. Over the years, The Sweet Rebellion has moved from a hobby to my job, and I treat it as such!
My blog has afforded me the opportunity to work with a number of brands doing recipe development, dessert demo’s and content creation which is how I spend the rest of my time.
