I’m a bit of a savage when it comes to The Wine Experience but I will give it a stab :-). Being a bit rusty here, I am going to borrow some experience from foodoo as they seem to know wine. Well at least they know more than me, the ‘wine cave man’. Right so here goes, if I bugger up please feel free to tell me. Nicely. Or I might hit you over the head with my ‘cave man bottle club’!
So the vineyard I came across is Vondeling which apparently means ‘foundling’ in Dutch. If that’s wrong blame online translation tools and not the cave man! They sare Situated in Voor-Paardeberg in the Western Cape wine region. From the pics on their website it looks like a place to re-locate my cave to. Serious bit next, straight face on 🙂
Some Serious Talk
The first vintage made from their own grapes was 2005 but they have vines going back to 1983. Vonderling says
There’s a 50/50 red to white varietal ratio with a distinctly Mediterranean slant when it comes to more recent plantings.
What stood out to me is that they are actively involved in conservation. They say
Vondeling was a proud supporter of the Biodiversity and Wine Initiative, established in 2004 to promote awareness and participation in driving conservation minded farming practices.
There is more good stuff to read on their site and as a bonus they do accommodation and can host weddings as well.
A Quick Tasting
foodoo was at a tasting in Sandton and had stuff like this to say..
…paired beautifully with the Vondeling Sauvignon Blanc. All I can say is Prima!
this Bowwood Pinotage was a stunner. It’s savoury aroma with vanilla and plums was just phenomenal.
Fetch the City
Right enough serious stuff, as I have a headache now. We can’t fetch Vonderling for you yet but we can fetch any other wine you want, and maybe some vodka or even a beer. Right I am re-locating my cave to Voor-Paardeberg, adios. #fetchthecity #vonderling #wine #pretoria #foodoo
